Hand and Wrist Surgery

Our hands are involved in many of the activities we do every day: working, writing, driving, cooking, and taking care of ourselves. When an injury affects the bones, tendons, ligaments, or nerves in the hands, surgery may be necessary to restore their function.

Not all injuries require surgery. The decision depends on the type of injury, its severity, and the likelihood of regaining function through other treatments.

What conditions can be treated with surgery?

Tendon Injuries

When the tissue that allows the fingers to bend or stretch is torn.

Nerve Injuries

When sensation or movement in the hand is affected.

Ligament Injuries

When the structures that keep the joints stable tear.

Deep Wounds

When there is damage to important structures beneath the skin.

Aftereffects of Previous Injuries

When an old injury causes pain, stiffness, deformity, or difficulty moving the fingers.

What does the treatment involve?

Depending on the problem, the specialist may repair injured tissues, reconstruct damaged structures, or stabilize bones with plates, screws, or pins. In some cases, microsurgical techniques are used to repair nerves and blood vessels.

After the procedure, the patient may require immobilization, medical follow-ups, and rehabilitation to regain strength, sensation, and mobility.

The goal is to improve hand function and facilitate a gradual return to daily activities. The outcome and recovery time depend on the specific injury.
